Amy Jordan To Perform in Carnegie Hall

Amy Jordan, a year 10 student from New–Bridge Integrated College is preparing to head off, along with her fellow musicians from the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI), to tour in America over the Halloween break.

This is 14 year old Amy’s second year with the acclaimed youth orchestra as a second violinist and while she has completed two National tours this will be her first International tour.

The CBOI, Ireland’s leading youth orchestra, is made up of 110 young musicians aged 12 – 24 years from both sides of the community and both sides of the border. It was established in 1995 as a means of bringing young people of all traditions, cultures and faiths from all over Ireland together to promote tolerance and understanding through the power of music.

It is this promotion of unity that connects it so closely to the ethos of Integrated Education.

The tour which lasts 7 days will climax with a performance on the prestigious stage of Carnegie Hall, New York on Thursday 30th October at 7.30pm. To play on the stage of Carnegie Hall is quite an honour and like every other musician Amy is very excited at the prospect. To claim such an achievement at the tender age of 14 makes the prospect even more exciting.

The CBOI is now recruiting new members so if you can play any orchestral instrument (except piano) or bagpipes/highland pipes and would like to join an orchestra that can offer you these opportunities then contact the CBOI via email at crossborderorchestra@eircom.net or Tel 00353 868283268  Closing date 31st October 2014.

New-Bridge Recording Studio

We are very proud of our new Recording Studio in the Music department. With invaluable help from our Parents’ Association,

New-Bridge students staged their very own tribute to the Broadway shows in their recent production of ‘Show Time’. The proceeds of this event funded the build for this new project and we are delighted with the hi-tech and professional finish. Selected pupils have been trained in using the Pro-Logic recording programme and are responsible for the smooth running of the studio. This is yet another exciting development in promoting the Gifted and Talented programme in the College.

Gifted and Talented Programme at New-Bridge

Year 10 Art, Drama, ICT and Music students in New-Bridge Integrated College have been involved in an exciting new digital media connected learning project.

3

The Amma Centre staff in Armagh came to the College to give advice and offer training to the pupils involved. As a result of the success of the project, work was submitted to the Carson Bursary Award. Year 10 students were awarded 1st place in key stage 3 (£500) and Year 14 art student Caoimhe Devlin was awarded joint 1st in the senior section (£250).

The Carson Awards are named in honour of the legendary Northern Ireland comedian Frank Carson and his son Tony. Frank and Tony are both passionate supporters of integrated education and have a long standing relationship with the Integrated Education Fund. Sponsored by Tony, The Awards are now in their fourth year and it is hoped the scheme will run for many years to come.

We were delighted that our efforts with the Year 10 Journeys project have also been recognised by CRED NI who awarded us a £4000 grant to further develp our digital media resources in the school.

The Bursary has enabled the College to purchase 4 new Mac Book Pros ICT, which will be put to good use in the college.
