We believe History should be as real and interesting as possible and we try to bring History alive. Our aim is to encourage pupils to;

  • Enjoy the study of History,
  • Understand the past and gain knowledge,
  • Encourage open non-biased minds,
  • Develop opinions,
  • Communicate effectively,
  • Work independently and to co-operate positively with others.

History is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 3 and pupils study History 3 periods per week in Year 8-10 in mixed ability classes.

At KS3 each pupil has the opportunity to participate in one educational visit each year.  In this school year we plan to visit the following landmarks:

Year 8 – Dromore Motte & Bailey and Carrickfergus Castle

Year 9 – Titanic Museum, Belfast

Year 10 – Open top bus tour of Belfast & Crumlin Road Gaol

History is a popular option choice at GCSE and AS/A2 Level .

We follow the CEA syllabuses and pupils study 5 periods per week in Years 11/12 and 9 periods per week in Sixth Form.
